New Course Announcement – Sexual Harassment Awareness Training

Another month, another course! Our latest course announcement focuses on a very hot topic at the moment – sexual harassment.

Sexual harassment is rife in the news at the moment, with the likes of Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and Dustin Hoffman being at the centre of the Hollywood sexual harassment scandal, whilst a number of politicians in Westminster have been accused of sexual wrongdoings. Michael Fallon, UK Defence Secretary even resigned after allegations of sexual harassment.

This is not to say, however, that sexual harassment only happens in showbiz and politics. Sexual harassment can happen anywhere, in fact, 60% of women and 40% of men in the UK report being a victim of sexual harassment at some point in their working lives.

The problems with sexual harassment in the workplace

Too afraid to report it

Many victims of sexual harassment are too afraid to report cases, the most common reasons for this include fear of damaging their careers and/or losing their job altogether.

“When I was 23 my arse was regularly pinched at work. I was too afraid of losing my job to report it. I work in a bar and face constant, ongoing, never-ending abuse from men ordering drinks… I know if I complained I’d have to leave my job.”

Reports being dismissed

What’s worse is that when a victim does find the courage to speak to someone about the incident, the problem is often normalised and dismissed. In worse case scenarios victims are not taken seriously or even experience unfair treatment from management after reporting an incident. As these victims recall…

“Saw my hours cut every time I complained to a manager about the co-worker who sexually harassed me and then threatened me.”

“When a customer at work tried to reach his hand down my shirt, I wasn’t taken seriously by any of my co-workers”
