The UK is victim of more cyber attacks than ever before

Both the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) report that cyber criminals are launching more online attacks against British businesses than ever before.

Both North Korean and Russian hackers have been said to be behind some of these cyber attacks. However, organised crime groups have also continued to harm the economy through cyber attacks.

The report issued runs through a selection of data breaches, much like those affecting Yahoo, Equifax and Uber. Additionally, the report takes a look at the WannaCry ransomware hack that led to the cancellation of 7,000 NHS appointments.

The report stresses that the private and public sector need to work together to handle cyber crime.

Donald Toon, who is the director of the NCA’s Prosperity Command, warned that “organisations which don’t take cyber security extremely seriously in the next year are risking serious financial and reputational consequences. By increasing collaboration between law enforcement, government and industry we will make sure the UK is a safe place to do business and hostile zone for cyber criminals”.
