Section 1
The first section of the course sets the foundations of medication administration in schools; it covers everyone’s legal responsibilities, from school governors to parents and teaching staff; and then goes on to show what a school’s medication policy should contain.
Section 2
This section covers medication itself; it looks at the different categories of medication, how to work out dosages, how to read prescription labels, and how to safely store and dispose of medication.
Section 3
This third section is all about processes. It covers the legal and best-practice processes that need to be considered when giving medication to children in schools. This includes how to look after children who self-medicate; what to do if you need to covertly administer medication; and how to manage emergency medication.
Section 4
The final section goes into more detail and takes a close look at how to administer medication to children with diabetes, eczema, asthma, and severe allergies.
About this course
This training is specifically targeted at adults working within the education sector. It provides an overview of how to care for a child as well as their medical needs. As well as this, the legal responsibility that each adult has for a child. Efficiently trained staff will reduce the risk of harm to both students and staff.
By following the guidelines set by The Department for Education & Skills and The Department of Health, we ensure participants are given the best training. This course will provide a sound knowledge of medication use and touch upon specialist treatments for specific illnesses in children.
It’s a great introduction to administering medication in schools or a handy refresher – However, in order to administer medication to children in schools you need formal training from an NHS practitioner, this course is not a substitute for this training.
