-
1The Types of Bribery
-
2Failing to Prevent Bribery
-
3Bribes, Gifts and Hospitality

Section 1
In this section of the anti-bribery online training course we look at the first three types of bribery covered by The Bribery Act 2010 – Bribing another person, Being bribed and Bribery of foreign public officials.

Section 2
This section looks at the fourth offence from The Bribery Act – Failure to prevent bribery. It also looks at the six principles, or guidelines, which organisations must follow to help prevent them from committing this offence.

Section 3
In this final section, we're looking at the fine line between what might be considered to be a gift and what might be considered to be bribe. What can you offer, or be offered, without it being considered a bribe? We also look at common indicators that bribery may be taking place; suggesting why people might be involved in bribery, and explaining what should be done if bribery is suspected.
About this course
Bribery is something that happens more often than you may think! In the UK, up to 1 in 4 organisations come under pressure to accept bribes or make illegal payments every year; or lose business to competitors as a result of bribes.
This Anti-Bribery Course aims to raise awareness. It explains the four offences that can be committed under The Bribery Act. And it looks at the fine line between gifts and bribes – when is it acceptable to give a gift or hospitality? And when might they be seen as a bribe? And what to consider for an anti-bribery policy.
It also explains what you should look out for – the signs that suggest that bribery might be taking place. It looks at what you should do if you’ve been given, offered or promised a gift or hospitality and think it might be a bribe, or if you suspect someone else is involved in bribery.
The anti-corruption training course uses a clear, easy-to-understand style, supported by excellent graphics and animation. Scenario-style questions are used throughout the programme as examples to test understanding.
This online Anti-Bribery Training also works well alongside our Anti-Money Laundering and Data Protection Training titles.

Enjoyed Presentation of Information
Enjoyed the short and clear explanations coupled with practical examples.
Informative
Very interesting and informative, some things discussed in the course are common sense but some makes you think about situations you may come across in sales.
Easy to follow and understand
I liked how the course used bite size chunks to convey the information and gave good examples throughout. This allowed me to return to the course in between the short videos at a busy time in work. It also made the course more digestible overall.
I feel one of the questions in the multiple choice is incorrect
Q2 (on my run) Do you know where to find information about your companies bribery procedures (or words to that effect) Yes/No Presumably the correct answer is Yes, but the truthful answer might very well be 'no' as the training only gives a couple of vague hints as to where this could be found. This leads to a bit of a conundrum…to lie, and benefit from the lie….or tell the truth and potentially be penalised?
Clear and useful.
Very clear presentation. The test, as always, was designed to confuse as there was always more than one possible answer.
Why is this training important?
Compliance
It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.
The Bribery Act 2010 is a very powerful legislation that applies to England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The law under this legislation states that there are 4 main offences relating to bribery and if you are found guilty of committing any of these offences, you could risk imprisonment, unlimited fines and blacklisting.
The four offences that can be committed under The Bribery Act are:
Under Section 1 – Bribing another person
Under Section 2 – Being bribed
Under Section 6 – Bribery of foreign public officials
And under Section 7 – Failure to prevent bribery.
An example real-world bribery
One of the biggest bribery cases in recent years is the million-pound bribery and corruption at Coca-Cola Enterprises UK Ltd. which saw 3 companies being fined WABGS Limited received a fine of £500,000, Tritec Systems Limited of £70,000 and Electron Systems Limited of £70,000.
Business benefits
Consequences of taking bribes as a business
Giving and receiving bribes is illegal in the UK, with individuals and organisations risking massive fines, loss of reputation and business, and facing costly investigations and even prison time resulting in 10-year sentences.
If you are found to be taking a bribe this can result in an unlimited penalty and will be higher regarding on the severity of the offence.
Take an anti-corruption stance with this course
Despite this, it’s incredibly prevalent with as many as a quarter of all organisations coming under pressure to accept or offer bribes in order to secure business or favour. The line which separates genuine gifts from bribery is a fine one. That’s why this course is an absolutely essential for all members of staff. It’ll help establish the difference between a gift and a bribe, teach users what the law says about bribery, and, ultimately, help you and them stamp out and prevent bribery from taking place,
How to report bribery offences?
You can report bribery and corruption offences to Action Fraud or your local police who will investigate the offence.
