About this course

Cases of Unconscious Bias happen every single day in UK workplaces and they can have a seriously negative impact on staff morale and productivity. We are unaware of our unconscious biases but they are stored away in our minds and still affect the way we think and how we behave.

An example of a common unconscious bias is Conformity Bias, which is when we behave similarly to others in a group, even if it goes against what we actually believe.

This Unconscious Bias Training has been created to identify your own unconscious biases as well as any others that already exist in your workplace. It looks at things such as how they affect workplace relationships, decision-making, and workplace culture.

This course works in conjunction with our unconscious bias for management course. It’s also the perfect partner for both equality, diversity & inclusion training and bullying & harassment for employees courses.

All of these training courses are available online for your convenience and can be completed on any device, at any time.

Thought provokimg

Thought- provoking with a good level of detail. I especially liked the commitment to action section at the end of the course.

Excellent online course

Excellent course content but could not move cursor forward when replaying (already seen) content. Sometimes it would have been good to have gone back to one or two sentences without having to replay the whole footage. This is a minor point but overall - excellent.

Excellent and thought provoking.

The course provided good examples and case studies to stimulate self-reflection and the tools to support positive self-assessment; combined, these have provided a good foundation to aim always to avoid bias in its various complex forms within the workplace – and more widely. Thank you.

Why is this training important?

Compliance

It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.

As it stands, there is no legislation relating to unconscious bias. However, unconscious bias can fall into the category of equality & diversity, for which, there is relevant legislation for The Equality and Diversity Act 2010.

Unconscious Bias Training can have the following impact on your business:

Promotes Diversity and Inclusion

One of the foremost benefits of unconscious bias training is that it promotes diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Businesses can create a more welcoming workplace culture and inclusive environment for future members of staff.

Bad workplace culture can put members potential members of staff off, if not dealt with this can lead to workplace bullying.

Business benefits

As humans, we naturally have biases for and against all manner of things – it just means we prefer one thing over another. Some biases we’re completely aware of, others we’re not. Having employees complete anti bias training will have a massive impact on your business.

Our unconscious biases come from a part of our brains which make quick, automatic judgements. When these judgements are negative, they can have a significant impact on our relationships with other people, can affect how well we work with others, and can destroy productivity. To avoid this, it’s important that people are made aware of their unconscious biases so that they can think about whether they’re fair or not. This online unconscious bias course does just that. It shines a light on your unconscious biases and encourages an environment of inclusion and diversity, benefiting both employees and the wider business.

Mitigates legal risks

Finally, unconscious bias can lead to legal and reputational risks for businesses. Discriminatory practices can lead to lawsuits and money lost in claims.

This in turn can lead to a loss of customers, if they hear about your organisation through bad press. Unconscious bias training can help businesses mitigate these risks by promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion in line with The Equality and Diversity Act 2010.
