Guest blog: The importance of understanding personality types

Posted 4 months ago

As part of developing our eLearning course, we often consult third parties who are experts in the subject topic so ensure that our training content is accurate and up to date.

When developing our ‘Understanding Personality Types’ course we consulted with Debbie Denyer from Coach the Difference, an accredited provider of personality profiling. Debbie shared her insights into the importance of understanding personalities with us.

We’re all different. It’s those differences which can make friendships, relationships and teams work so well, but they can also cause frustration! We each have unique ways of gathering information, making decisions, and responding to situations.

Too often, we see the world solely from our own perspective, making assumptions about others’ actions. These assumptions can breed resentment and miscommunication, leading to conflicts that strain friendships and professional relationships.

By delving into both your own and others’ personality types, you can turn those frustrations into understanding, creating stronger relationships. Although humans are incredibly complex, grouping our preferences helps us to gain insights into others. For example, some of us rely on our senses to gather information, favouring a logical and pragmatic approach, while others trust their intuition and focus on future possibilities.

When making decisions, some people naturally lean toward analytical, fact-based thinking, while others are guided by empathy and the feelings of those involved.

Our responses to situations also vary: some of us are introverts who recharge through solitude, prefer one-to-one settings, and need time to ponder decisions. In contrast, extraverts draw energy from social interactions, thrive in group settings, and often make decisions more swiftly.

Recognising where you and those around you fall on these scales can benefit your interactions. Imagine what it would be like if you could reduce miscommunication – less conflict and stress. You’d have a better environment to live, or work in, increased productivity, improved decision making, trust and team cohesion.

As an accredited provider of personality profiling, I’ve really enjoyed helping iHasco to develop their course content. Through my experience delivering profiling for individuals, teams, and entire organisations, I’ve witnessed the positive impact it can have. People have said profiling has been like a ‘lightbulb moment’ helping them to not only understand but appreciate their own strengths and the strengths of others. It’s helped leaders, colleagues and families recognise how they can adapt their approach, supporting each other to be at their best.

At Coach the Difference Ltd., I am passionate about helping organisations unlock their full potential through personality profiling, embedding it further with workshops and leadership development programmes. I’m pleased to be able to share an introduction to its effectiveness with you.
