Section 1
In this section, users will see the three kinds of hazards that PPE is designed to protect them against, the responsibilities both employees and employers have towards employee safety at work, and they’ll consider the limitations of PPE and learn why it’s so important to not become complacent.
Section 2
Knowing what different kinds of PPE are for and how they keep employees safe is vital in making sure they use PPE properly and at the right times. So, in this section, we’ll take a journey around the body and see what types of protection exist and how they keep them safe.
About this course
This training aims to highlight the importance of using Personal Protective Equipment, as well as what you can do to ensure your PPE continues to provide the protection you need.
Every year there are thousands of PPE-related injury accidents in the workplace; around half of these happen because either no PPE is provided when it should be, or because the equipment supplied is not used or maintained correctly. These accidents are easily preventable if those using PPE understand its importance, and how to correctly maintain it.
This PPE course explains the different kinds of hazards that PPE protects you from, as well covering the different types of Personal Protective Equipment and the laws in place that relate to the provision and use of PPE at work. It also looks into responsibilities, just because you are wearing your PPE, it doesn’t mean you are 100% safe.

Why is this training important?
Compliance
It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.
You must adhere to the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992, which cover the use and issue of PPE to employees. The main requirements focus on the fact that the employer must carefully select suitable PPE that is fit for the purpose for which it is intended. These regulations seek to ensure that where the risks cannot be controlled by other means, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is correctly selected and used.
Employers must provide employees with information, instruction and training that is adequate, appropriate and that they understand. This will ensure that employees know:
i) the risks which the PPE will avoid or limit;
ii) what the PPE is for;
iii) how to use the PPE provided;
iv) any action needed by the wearer to ensure the PPE remains in an efficient state, efficient working order and in good repair.Information must be kept available, and at suitable intervals demonstrations in the wearing of PPE should be organised.
