HSE COVID-secure inspections on further education providers in England & Wales

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has announced that they will be carrying out inspections on further education providers in England & Wales to check they are following the relevant government guidelines on being COVID-secure.

These inspections are taking place as a result of lockdown measures easing, and the government requiring educational settings to remain vigilant of the risk presented COVID-19.

The HSE have stated:

In the coming weeks, HSE will be carrying out spot checks and inspections on further education (FE) providers in England and Wales to check they are following the relevant government guidelines on being COVID-secure. This follows on from similar work previously carried out in Scotland.

This will start week commencing Monday 17 May 2021 and will be done by calls and visits to colleges to review the measures taken to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The HSE

Starting from the 17th of May, the HSE will be individually calling further education providers to assess the measures they have in place to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Following these initial calls, if any concern is raised, these educational institutes will be referred for further intervention. This may require an on-site visit to check a suitable and sufficient risk assessment has been carried out.
