It also provides an insight into what can influence negative thought patterns, which are proven to impact productivity levels.

Section 2

How do you go about managing poor mental health? Particularly things like loneliness, stress, depression or anxiety? We give you guidance and practical tips on how to do so, and we look at changes in staff behaviour and what to watch out for. Section 2 also has additional resources that provide handy overviews of other mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder and personality disorders.

Section 3

Here is your very own Wellbeing Toolkit that can be used to manage day-to-day mental health! It offers a variety of mini exercises, insights, practical strategies and some food for thought – so you can use whatever suits you!

Section 4

This section looks deeper into how poor mental health can impact businesses and the importance of providing good working conditions. We look at the importance of having a 'mental health at work plan', making workplace adjustments when needed and we also show you how to effectively monitor staff wellbeing at regular intervals.

Section 5

In this final section, we've created a 'hub' for external mental health management. It offers great starting points for improving wellbeing, information on external books, websites, apps and helplines.

About this course

Poor mental health is a very serious issue at work. It can have a huge impact on productivity and it can create a negative working environment. Management teams have a duty to recognise and acknowledge poor mental health and they must know how to deal with a variety of situations relating to the topic.

This Mental Health Awareness Training for Managers raises awareness of mental health and it explains different working practices that management can use to offer support to colleagues. It also provides simple and effective tools that can be used on a daily basis for management to enhance both their own and their employee’s mental health.

It’s not only a moral responsibility to take care of one another at work… it makes financial sense too. For every £1 that an organisation invests in improving the mental health of their staff, they see an average of a £5 return!

confusing

I wasn't sure what I was meant to take away from this course. As a person that suffers with mental health or a manager of people that suffer with their mental health.

it was fine

The course was satisfactory but not groundbreaking. The most effective way to enhance awareness is to cultivate a genuine interest in the team's mental health and happiness, which I think the course does not promote.

Found it useful

This user gave this course a rating of 5/5 stars

Increased my wellbeing awareness

This course has helped my mental preparation for my own wellbeing and those around me. There are some really good links/resources available throughout the course for both mental and physical wellbeing.

Very Good Course

This course is easily understood and it does help you to understand how depression can affect a person both mentally and physically.

Dealing with trauma

As a trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapist I was surprised there was nothing on trauma, especially given redundancy is now going on in HE, this can be a traumatic event.

Could be good for the individual

Found the course interesting from and for an individual to assess and identify their needs. There are some good tools in the course to assist and help improve your own individual needs.

Good clear overview of mental health management

Would like to read more about different conditions such as PTSD but those which were outlined were concise and good descriptions.

Why is this training important?

Business benefits

According to the HASAWA 1974, employers must “so far as is reasonably practicable” protect the health & safety of their employees by removing or reducing risks in the workplace.

If someone has a mental illness for over 12 months and they can show that it’s causing them disadvantages at work, it can be classed as a disability. This means the employee is protected by the Equality Act if colleagues or their employer were to discriminate against them because of their mental illness. Employers are legally required to make reasonable adjustments to support employees with mental illnesses at work. However, even if it’s not classed as a disability, management should always offer all the support they can.
