How to transition from instructor-led training to eLearning

The age-old debate… What works better? Instructor-led training or eLearning? Okay, maybe it isn’t “age-old”, but it is a common question that organisations wonder when they are implementing a training plan.

Whilst both methods of training have their pros and cons, we believe that they both have their place.

Even as a provider of eLearning, we can see a place for classroom training – we do a lot of it ourselves and can see the upside of getting people together in a room to debate and learn from each other. But this method relies on an effective trainer, committed delegates and usually much more money! Unfortunately, those three things are not always easy to find!

What we’ve done to make the transition even easier

We understand the popularity of instructor-led training. In fact, about 20 years ago and before eLearning, there was no debate for this being the most effective way to learn! The value of face-to-face training is such that we’ve made all of our courses presenter-led! However, times have changed since 20 years ago and eLearning is becoming the go-to training method for many organisations!

With that said, we try and make the process of transitioning as simple as possible (we’re even happy offering a no-obligation free trial to any of our courses!).

Here are just a few things that we can do to make your transition easier than ever…

Importing historical data

We allow our clients to import historical course results so that all of their previous records are maintained alongside the records from their new online learning!

So there’s no need to worry about the hassle surrounding keeping training records in one place for an inspection, as we can do this for you!

Flexibility

We are also believers in flexibility and training on-the-go. This can allow some users to become more engaged with their training, as they are doing it in their own time and not rushing to complete their course without taking any of the information in. Our training can be completed at any time, from anywhere with an internet connection, on any device.

Engaging courses

One of the biggest concerns of organisations looking to make the transition to eLearning is whether or not employees will digest the information as well as they would in a classroom.

The reason for that concern is down to the negative stigma that has been attached to eLearning for far too long. There are some organsiations out there (we won’t mention any names!) that label their content as “eLearning” and just offer up a bog-standard PDF or PowerPoint presentation… but not us!

We have a designated creative team that produces all of our training courses in-house to the highest standard. This means that we have control over the content we produce, and we ensure that we only release the best possible content!

Our courses are presenter-led, they contain interactive choice slides, they’re made up of some fantastic animation, and have plenty of other features to engage the user.

The training administrator also has control over whether the slides in the courses can be skipped or not.

Easy Management & Reporting

Nobody wants an overcomplicated management and/or reporting process when it comes to workplace training.

Our Learning Management System has been built with simplicity in mind and comes with a whole host of great features.

Saving money through productivity

I apologise in advance, but we’re going to ask you to do some maths…

  1. Take your total number of employees.
  2. Multiply that number by their average hourly salary.
  3. Now, multiply that by all the time that training sessions and travel to and from those training sessions take.

That’s the productivity cost of in-person training.

Here’s an example:

You have 20 employees’; each employee earns the national minimum wage of £8.21 per hour. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all of them to have adequate Fire Awareness Training on a regular basis.

Traditional face-to-face Fire Awareness Training with 20 employees x £8.21 x 4 hours = £656.80, which equates to a cost of £32.84 per employee and 80 hours lost productivity for your company.

Our Online Fire Awareness Training with 20 employee’s x £8.21 x 0.5 hours = £82.10 this equates to a cost of £4.11 per employee and 10 hours lost productivity.

Using the national minimum wage and just 20 staff, that amounts to £574.70 annual saving and you would gain 70 hours of lost time back.

I’m sure you can imagine the savings for your organisation would be significant, and that’s just saving money in productivity!

Conclusion

We are not suggesting that you replace all of your organisation’s instructor-led training with eLearning, however, there are definitely certain areas of training that would benefit your organisation if you were to make the transition.

But don’t just take our word for it… we have thousands of reviews on multiple platforms, including TrustPilot, Google, and Capterra that you can take a look at!

Better yet, try our training for yourself! We offer a no-obligation free trial to anybody that is interested in our training solution.
