Why do you need Asbestos Awareness Training?
Posted 4 years ago
If you’re involved in the construction industry, whether as an employee or a business owner, you cannot afford to begin any project without ensuring that you and your team have taken part in complete Asbestos Awareness Training. Even if you don’t expect asbestos to be present on your construction site, you need to undertake this training to ensure the highest levels of safety.
Any building which was originally built, or undertook refurbishment, before the year 2000 could have asbestos in its infrastructure. This form of online training is absolutely essential to help you avoid unnecessary risks which could really cause lasting damage.
Who needs to undertake Asbestos Awareness Training?
Asbestos Awareness Training should be given to any and all employees whose work could see them disturbing the fabric of these older buildings – potentially exposing them to asbestos. Similarly, it is important that site managers and supervisors understand the dangers associated with asbestos and don’t ask their employees to perform any work without the correct equipment and protective clothing.
In particular, this form of practical education should be given to a range of other tradesmen and specialists in a range of industries relating to construction and destruction industries. This can include self-employed contractors and full-time employees, such as:
- Demolition Specialists;
- Construction Workers & Builders;
- Electricians;
- Plumbers;
- Gas Fitters;
- Joiners;
- Painters & Decorators;
- Engineers;
- Installation Specialists Including:
- Heating & Ventilation;
- Telecommunications;
- Computer, IT & Data Installers;
- Fire, Burglar Alarm & CCTV Installers
These requirements only apply to those construction sites which have a chance of featuring ACM (asbestos-containing materials) within their infrastructure. Whether or not a site includes the potential for ACM should be obvious regarding its date, but an assessment should always be carried out on an existing property beforehand to establish whether ACM is present.
It is worth pointing out that this form of training will not prepare either contractors or employees from carrying out direct work with asbestos-containing materials. AAT is intended to help professionals avoid carrying out dangerous work that will disturb the fibres of asbestos or other ACMs.
