It looks at what asbestos is, what an Asbestos Management Plan is; it considers some of the major diseases associated with working with asbestos and the effects they have on the human body; and it covers what you should do if you are ever accidentally exposed. The course is IOSH Approved and has been audited by the Independent Asbestos Training Providers (IATP). Section 1
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that crystallises into lots of tiny fibres. In this section we will take a look at what is asbestos is and why it is dangerous, the 6 different types of asbestos, the history of asbestos, who is at risk, asbestos containing materials as well as asbestos-related diseases.
Section 2
In this section, we take a look at practical steps to reduce and remove the risks at work. We focus on Asbestos Management Plans (including asbestos removal from qualified HSE teams), what to do if you unexpectedly find/discover/disturb asbestos, what to do if you disturb asbestos and show a mans story who worked with asbestos for years.

Asbestos is the name given to a group of natural minerals which have been used for centuries. Valued for its durability and heat resistance, asbestos was often used as insulation in buildings, as flooring and roofing, and sprayed onto ceilings and walls. However, when broken down into tiny fibres and breathed in, asbestos turns into a hazardous material which can lead to a host of life-threatening diseases – including asbestosis, pleural thickening, mesothelioma, and lung cancer. This is why awareness training is so important.
When was Asbestos banned in the UK?
In 1999, Asbestos was fully banned from use in the UK. However, despite this, it’s still responsible for over 5000 deaths every year. Many buildings constructed before the year 2000 may still have asbestos in them, meaning that it’s absolutely crucial that anyone who might be exposed – such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, and builders – must have asbestos awareness training.
This Asbestos Awareness training provides you with everything you need to know about the basics of asbestos safety awareness, and it does so in a concise, easily understood, and engaging format. However, please note – only HSE licensed contractors can test for and remove asbestos! Whilst you can’t remove asbestos yourself, education around it can be life saving by taking into account asbestos risk management and awareness training.

It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 – which came into force on 6th April 2012 – requires that the responsible person (or duty holder) in all non-domestic premises is responsible for ensuring that people who work there or visit the premises are protected against ill-health from exposure to asbestos. This includes all non-domestic buildings – industrial, commercial or public buildings – for example, offices, schools, hospitals, factories, shops and warehouses.
“Every employer must prevent the exposure to asbestos of any employee employed by that employer so far as is reasonably practicable.”
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
This states that “employers must protect the ‘health, safety and welfare’ of all their employees at work.”
