Section 1
We’ll begin by taking a closer look at what infections are, who’s at risk of infection, and where infections come from. Infectious diseases can spread from person to person. There are many potential sources of infection around us as we go about our usual day-to-day lives. In this section, we will cover; what an infection is, who is at risk as well as bacteria and viruses.
Section 2
Infections are transmitted from one place to another, or one person to another, through a process called the chain of infection. We’ll look at how transmission happens and what you can do to break the chain of infection where you work. The infection control tactics you learn in this training will help you to stay healthy and they’ll help you to avoid infections.
Section 3
In this final section, we will be covering good personal hygiene, using PPE appropriately, storing food correctly, disposing of waste safely, handling laundry properly, and keeping your environment clean to help break the chain of infection around you.
About this course
Our Online Infection Prevention & Control in Care Training explains to those working in Care exactly how the chain of infection works, how to break the chain to stop it spreading further and how important your own health and hygiene is when you work within the Care sector.
This infection control training course will also touch upon hand hygiene, hand washing, disposing of waste, PPE and disposing of Sharps.
The ONS (2015) found that more than one in five of the UK population is already over 60. The number of people over 60 is expected to increase from 14.9 million in 2014 to 18.5 million in 2025. With the increase in the ageing population, not just in the UK, but globally, those caring for this population need to ensure that they are fully aware and educated on how to prevent the spread of infection amongst those who might be more susceptible to it.
Standard 15 of the Care Certificate – Infection Prevention & Control in Care – requires staff to:

This course works alongside our 14 other awareness courses that make up the Care Certificate Standards.
You can Standard 15: Infection Prevention and Control in Care worksheet that has been designed to accompany our online Infection Prevention and Control in Care Training course. In each section, there is a box for you to tick when you have watched the relevant slide in our course. You can also take notes that will help you during your practical assessment at work.
This course equips learners with the knowledge that’s required to be put into practice in the workplace, whereby they can do the ‘practical’ part of their training, followed by having the Care Certificate supplied to them by their management as they meet the required standards. These courses provide part of training but practical training is still required to obtain the care certificate.

A bit tricky at times.
There were some issues with getting onto the course at first using the original link that was emailed to me and then when I was doing the test I had to refresh after every question to get onto the next. It did not register that I had done the test on the site but then when I happened to check my email it said I had finished.

Infection Prevention & Control in Care is Standard 15 of the 15 standards that are in the Care Certificate. Those who have job roles in the health and social care sector are shown what is expected of them in the Care Certificate which is an agreed set of standards that employees need to pass. It forms part of an induction programme that should be covered if you are ‘new to care’.
The Care Certificate was developed by Skills for Care, Health Education England and Skills for Health.
