Health & Safety courses

Why is training important?

Relevant legislation

It’s important that you comply with the law and understand the positive impact training can have on your organisation.

Within the Retail sector, there are a number of legal guidelines that stipulate employers have a duty to provide adequate health and safety training for their staff. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 cover general requirements, as well as additional training for those working alone within the workplace.

Other pieces of legislation such as The Electricity at Work Act 1989 and The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 outline the necessity for training on safe use of electrical appliances and best practice for preventing slips, trip and falls. Other documents much as The Equality Act 2010, The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and The Data Protection Act 1998 are also relevant.
